When it first debuted in the U.S. for the 1997 model year, the A8 started at $57K, or about $83K in today's dollars. Now, a '97 is worth its weight in scrap metal.

A8 was aluminum chassis and body so yeah it scraps for pretty high value. COmpare that to the cost of engine and transmission and driveline repair and the scrap seems like a good deal. In some cases, it most definitely is.

Not sad at all... Yuck, Audi / VW of the 90's.

I'm surprised he one pictured isn't all stripped out already. Parts for those things do not last at junk yards for obvious reasons.

I still lust after an S8, or even an A8L of that vintage. The want to recreate the RONIN chase scenes are too strong.
You can find a manual in the states that fits it, its just still a ridiculously expensive endeavor

I love this style of the A8. I want a 6spd S8 so damn bad.

It went the way of the V8 quattro. Poor maintenance, owners that beat on them because you can get them running and driving for 2-3 grand etc. the V8 was the same way. Expensive to keep up on. I havent seen a truly nice (upgraded from UFO brakes too) V8 in a great long time. Beaters with wobbly brakes, 3-4 a year

Eh, what better fate did it have? Just because something was expensive back in the day doesn't make it worth anything now. It just wasn't a good enough car for what it costs to keep.

Now listen here, sonny jim! There will be no more of such talk on this page. When your sedan is so damn good that it has to be banned to keep from breaking the rules, you get some damn respect! Got it? Good.

***Yawn...
Did Audi sell those? No?
Have a Yugo:

Actually yes, they did. Audi had to homologate the chassis and aero parts used so they did make road models for their DTM and STW competition cars. Here's the V8 Evo with the adjustable rear spoiler and multi-part front splitter made for the DTM car.

Not what I meant ;)
Just Audi... So much bland, so much unreliable, so much... meh. Nothing wrong with them, just not interesting to me.

Ah yes, back when the Audi front end looked good. Hell, back when the whole car looked good.
Nowadays it's all about who can come up with the biggest, most obnoxious grille possible while still leaving room for the headlights.
